As a maid, the virtuous Parthenia is contracted in marriage to Demagoras. "a man mighty in riches and power and proud thereof, stubbornly stout, loving nobody but himself. Argalus and his bride Parthenia-whose history, like that of Phalantus, is an addition to the Old Arcadia-are paragons of virtue and fidelity: their much-enduring love ends in wedded joy and they become an ideal against which all other noble lovers might be measured.

Parthenia, wanting to release Argalus from his romantic obligation to her, flees. Here the heroine’s disfigurement is involuntary, but like Thamire with Celidée, Argalus proves his constancy to Parthenia.

It’s a happy ending (until Argalus has to fight at the castle of Amphialus, but I digress). BUT the headpiece was no sooner off but that there fell about the shoulders of the overcome knight the treasure of fair golden hair, which, with the face, soon known by the badge of excellency, witnessed that it was Parthenia, the unfortunately virtuous wife of Argalus.
